Pure Magic

June 16, 2012

Having a new camera has brought magic into my life. I recently bought a Canon Rebel EOS T3 with two lenses, one regular and one telephoto.

I feel so much more mentally healthy just having it in my hands. Everything has a new beauty.

From the sublime…
Morning Glory

To the ridiculous.

It all looks different now. Moments sneak up on me and bring me delight.

I used to take the dog for long walks, but now, because of her weak legs, she can’t go very far. Now I take my camera out for long walks and take pictures of dogs that I meet.

This world is full of wonderful, amazing, precious sights. It’s funny that sometimes it takes a camera to appreciate them. It’s like clicking the shutter captures them so that I can bring them close and fold them into my heart like little love notes from the world, notes that I can open and marvel at again and again.

Nice! There’s no substitute for seeing the world through a camera! Of course, now-a-days I’ve been so thrilled with even the tiny camera in my iPhone that I’ve been looking at the world this way more than ever. 🙂

I know. It’s weird that the camera in my phone is better than any camera I had until I got this one…

I think getting a fancy pants camera and learning to use it really teaches you to see. You notice things you’ve never noticed before, but have passed by a million times. And you’ll start to notice these things even when you don’t have your camera. Enjoy the beautiful world around you.

Thank you. If I go a day without shooting, as I did on Saturday, I really miss it.

So sorry Goldie can’t go with you anymore. I remember having that realization with our Kotzie.

We take short walks – up to half a mile on flat terrain. I can just see her back legs wobble though. She really WANTS to go, so we do what we can. It is so sad but she still takes great joy in the short walks we have.

Wow, those are amazing photos. Nicely done. I’d LOVE to be able to take pictures like that. What camera did you get?

I love my little point and shoot, but I’d give up any camera to have my walking buddy, Genevieve, back again. I miss my dog. She was a very good girl.

Thank you! I got the Canon EOS Rebel T3, which is a basic DSLR, but still very, very nice. It does all kinds of tricks.

Watching Goldie weaken is just smashing my heart. She’s so good and so brave.

I love that last picture – it’s so cool. Someday, I’d love to have a “real” camera…
