Good at math

November 18, 2013

Dark begins to creep down around 2:30. I’m trying to resist falling in. 5:15 pm and it is black outside.

This time of year has me doing math: 18 means 12 plus 21.

33 days until winter solstice. More than a month until the days start getting longer.

Holding my breath. Waiting.

Yeah. Counting down. (But March is the worst for me.)

March and September are both a little funky. But this month and December thru February are bad for me. I guess that’s a lot of the year, isn’t it?

My youngest son — born in the Sonoran Desert — now lives in Oslo Norway. This is the most difficult time of year for him. Cold, dark, wet, and the societal pressures of the holiday season. It’s a Norwegian custom to light many candles as the light fades each day. Gives warmth and comfort and a special coziness. Maybe lighting a few candles might help keep you from falling into the dark? HUGS!

After covering lots of house fires with the words “unattended candle” in them, I don’t really burn candles anymore. I wonder if the flameless kinds will be as cozy…I have one. I should turn it on more.
